Under some unfortunate circumstances I returned to Skagit Valley Herald for a few assignments. Long-time Skagit Valley Herald and Everett Herald staff photographer Frank Varga passed away last week. He was 66. Read his obituary here. On Friday night, I photographed my first high school basketball game, which is was a trip because I've been photographing WWU's basketball teams for the last year and a half and the game play was ... different. The high schoolers didn't jump toward the net as much and without a 70-200 lens, it would have been very difficult to get more than a few shots had I used my 85mm lens. On Saturday morning, I went to Edison, Wash., for a fowl parade featuring chicken on chickens on chickens. People were dressed in full chicken suits, some wearing roller skates, and others had chickens on leases. It was awesome. Finally, for my assignment I drove to the other side of Skagit County for boys Northwest 2A Subregional wrestling tournament in Sedro-Woolley. It was a quick hit, as I only stayed long enough to rub elbows with Bellingham Herald's photographer Andy Bronson for two local wrestlers. All in all, the natural light, which streamed in behind made for a good first try.
